Darker Waters is the limited company I created many years ago to earn money as a software contractor. It still lives as a place for me to advertise what I am currently doing, or trying to do. A few years ago I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (or M.E.), subsequently having to leave work. So I took a year off! It was amazing, travelling Europe and North America with my wife was just what I needed. During this year I found that I enjoyed writing a great deal and could write regardless of how bad my fatigue was. This is why I now have 4+ books on the go and am looking to get the edited, finished, polished and published.
During this year, however, I didn't forget my day job. It is very difficult to become an author and I wasn't going to throw away 17+ years of software experience and knowledge on a whim. So, working for my brother and others, I maintained my contact with the technical world. I helped a start-up, start up. I wrote some embedded stuff for my brother. I created mobile and web-applications that talked to each other. And a few other little jobs. Now I am back in the country, and somewhat more in control of my fatigue, I am seeking to get back to the world of software without getting an office job. My fatigue still prevents me getting a normal job so I am busy looking for little projects and online at home working. This is a challenge to say the least.
I am still writing too, just to see if I can make a go of it (O:
